HOW TO MEASURE A DOG FOR A HARNESS AND WHAT SIZE TO CHOOSE

The most important step when sizing a harness is to properly measure your dog for a particular harness model. In order to make the whole process easier, we have prepared some tips for you, and we have reduced the number of necessary measurements to the necessary minimum to allow us to get acquainted with your dog’s body structure.

What will you need ?

– A tailor’s centimeter or, in its absence, a string and a tape measure,

– Something to note the results,

– A calm, upright dog 😉

The measure should be removed in two places :

A – Neck circumference, at the height of the collar, that is, halfway up the neck , as close to the skin as possible,

B – C – Body length – measure from the height at the withers (the point between the shoulder blades) to the root of the tail,

D – You will also need your dog’s current weight.

To be sure that the measurement is taken off correctly, you should take the measurement several times and choose the most repeated result. A very important measurement is the circumference of the neck, because this measurement determines whether in the most important place of the harness it will fit well protecting the upper part of the shoulder blade, the top of the sternum and the sternum itself.
If you know what model of harness you are looking for the dimensions of your dog should be matched with the size chart of a particular model, if not, please visit HERE to learn more about which model of harness fits best for which dog’s body shape and activity.

Remember that the dimensions given in the table are the dimensions of the dog, not the harness. If you have doubts because your dog is an individual and you can not find his size in the table write to us in the Messenger application – we will help you choose the right size.
It is also worth paying attention to how hard working is the dog you are selecting the harness for. If he is a hard-working dog, and goes out between sizes it is better to choose the smaller one for the sake of the specifications of the materials of our harnesses, they will stretch quite a bit when the dog works hard. If the dog runs more socially and does not stretch the harness so much, it is safe to choose the larger size.

Our extensive sizing, where the neck size comes in as many as three variants : standard, slim or super slim allows you to choose your size precisely.
Below you will find an example of choosing the right size harness for our female dog Imari. The model she wears is the Collared harness whether in Classic, Grand Line or Open Back version, the most suitable size for her is S with a „slim” neck circumference.

Her measurements are :
A (neck circumference) 39 cm
B-C (body length) 56 cm
D (weight) 19.5 kg

We hope that you were able to find the right size of the harness, if not – we are at your disposal online in Messenger – welcome !
